Movies at the base

Yesterday night, Manny & his sister took me to see Contagion.

While on our way, Perla reminded me of our very important meeting next week. "Important meeting"  being code word for our Girls night out at the movies to see Breaking dawn! It's funny that all year I been saying Twilight (movies) suck, I hate the actors, blah, blah, blah...and now that the movie is fast approaching I am excited to see it! I'm such a hypo, I guess.

Anyways, yesterday was so much fun. I  dressed all comfy in my warmest clothes. We ordered nachos & popcorn but after seeing the first 15 minutes of the movie I started to get all paranoid. One thing for sure, I am never leaving the house with out my anti-bacterial.

                             

Trick-or-treat!

Manny and I spend the day at his school were we attended a Peruvian music concert. 

Afterwards we took Nathan Trick or Treating around my neighborhood. 

I ended up not dressing up as a cat or Snow White but I did wear my cute skull scarf.

Trick-OR-Treat!

My hair got so frizzy after while we were trick or treating! 

It was so much fun! We managed to gather a lot of candy even though it was already late. 

 I can't wait for next year!

Milkshake & Samba!

Yesterday, Emmanuel and I went to another University Concert. This time we watched a Brazilian music & dance Percussion group called  Sol e Mar. 

But before the concert we went to his school's bookstore where they were having a Halloween special. I specially loved their Greeting card corner with all their cute knick knacks & cards.

While there, I fell in love with these Owl hand lotions but for $7.50 they were not worth it... just yet :) 

Then for lunch, I finally tried this F'real Milkshake that he had been talking about forever.
 Let me tell you, it was good!
Plus, it is sort of interesting how you create your yummy milkshake :)

Once again I fail to take any pictures of what I wore today and it was a real shame because I was dressed to impress. All I can say is that I wore a black long sleeve with a burgundy Polo collar underneath, dark blue jeans, and my keds shoes.

Btw, next Monday will be Halloween and we are going to another concert. I just hope I get to go home with enough time to do my Pop art make up for my Snow White costume! Till then. bye.

Concert at the University plus dinner

    So for the past three Mondays, Manny has taken me to his University so I can join him on his weekly concert event. It is sort of mandatory for him to attend these events and he usually has to go by himself. 
We headed over to school around 2pm, had lunch, then Manny headed off to class so I walked around campus, and afterwards we attended the weekly concert. So far I have seen the music of Zimbabwe and the Mediterranean instruments of Italy but it wasn't till today that I really enjoyed the World Music performance.

     I fell in love with the Finland music produce by the talented Ms. Merja Soria and her partner Jeanette Kangas. Although the music was in the Finland language I found myself enchanted with the beats of the xylophone and the string work of the "Kantele". The music felt mystical and her voice was so Haunting. I really, really enjoyed their music and can guranteed I will be listening to the music over & over again. Plus it wasn't till I read the Program after tonight's entertainment that I found out that Miss Soria recorded the music for the National Geographic television program "Beyond the Movie: Lord of the rings" (One of my favorite trilogies ever!) I would definitely love to see her in concert again :)

After the concert, while on our walk to the car, Manny and I stopped by Mcdonalds . We ate a burger each but shared fries & a Diet Coke, of course, then we got desserts. Manny got himself a cone while I went all out and got myself a Sundae with nuts. Yum!!


It was a short afternoon together but I enjoyed every bit of it. Now for the rest of the week I need to focus on school (which started today, eep!) which means I won't see my Manny till Friday when we go to the movies to watch Paranormal Activity 3, So scary. 

Sleepover at Manny's!

     Last night I slept over at Manny's house. Since I was going to go to the doctors early in the morning with his mom they invited me to spend the night. I gathered up my things: Pj's, toothbrush, make up. etc...and headed over.

     When I got there it was already 10pm so almost everybody was asleep. Manny was studying in the living room so I joined him. Me and Nathan played Angry birds online and then he headed off to bed. I tried doing homework but Blackboard wasn't working. So I watched How to Make Granny Squares videos till 12:30am. Then I headed off to bed... with his mom! His family is old fashion and although we been together 7 years they still keep us separated when I spend the night. Let me tell you, those 7 hours felt like an eternity. I wish I could of spend all night studying next to Manny rather than going to sleep there. I was tossing and turning. I couldn't sleep. Not that I wanted to lay next to Manny but because I felt out of my comfort zone. I love my bed and I was missing Boo boos so much.

     I ended up waking up very early but since everybody was still sleeping I was laying there starring at the ceiling. Then after an hour or so I got up and got ready for the Doctor's appointment. When they woke up they all got ready too. The sad part of my day was when Manny left for school, I stayed with his mom and Nathan. We, then, headed off to the Doctors. Afterwards to McDonalds for breakfast. All without Manny :(

On a side note: I did noticed, first hand, is how busy Manny is. Here is a typical weekday for him:

7am Wake up & get ready (No breakfast!)

8am-1pm Work at the Naval Base

1pm-4pm study at school or work on Wind tunnel Project

4pm-7pm Class

7pm-1am Study/homework

And that's not counting the days he works 8 hours! or the nights he stays up studying with out any sleep.  

I admire him and support him & I make awareness of this because I notice how he hardly gets any sleep and he hardly eats! They say breakfast is the most important meal of the day but a cup of coffee ain't cutting it! Plus with FLU season around the corner I am scared he is going to get sick. I understand that his graduation is in 3 months (December yay!) but he needs to eat and stay as healthy as possible. I just hope that once his midterms are over and Thanksgiving is here, he can rest rather than head over to school while everybody is in vacation.

I am sitting at a desk inside the SDSU library. Emmanuel brought me to his school as a request from me. I am one day away from ending my Econ class and I have a research paper plus reflection essay to write. Knowing myself all to well I knew that I would not get things done if I was at home. I would of found an excuse to lay in bed and take a nap. Then I would be in so much trouble cause my research paper wouldn't get done.

I like it here so much. I am drinking my coffee. I am on twitter, writing my papers, and wasting time on Pinterest. The only thing I hate is the part where Manny is in class till 7pm. So I am here, all alone. Getting more bored by the minute... I also wanted to take pictures but the gals behind me are very loud and keep looking at what I am doing on my screen. So no pictures till they leave. 

Plus, I can't wait till Manny gets off so I can eat. Manny bought me breakfast in the morning but I am to shy to eat here. I don't like eating when I am by myself in a public area. Yup... that is the deal.... hopefully when Manny gets off we can take pictures around campus. I am wearing my new top from target and I love it so much.

Lunch, Zimbabwe experience, and a new job offer.

After Manny got off work, he invited me to go to SDSU. He had a few pending issues to resolve with his petition for graduating in December which meant he would be at school earlier than usual. Since I love going to his school I got ready and joined him. I love going to SDSU. I am so close to transferring there but in the mean time I enjoy being on campus as a visitor. We went to lunch at panda expressed then we headed to the Love library. No, it's not a make out spot. That's just the name, he-he. I had my online Economics test to finish so while Manny headed to class, I finished my test. I got a 30/40, btw. Then afterwards Manny invited me to a Zimbabwe concert. the exciting part was when we were waiting for the show to start I received a call from a Mexican restaurant. They told me they were interested in making me part of their business since they were in need of a cashier and liked that I had 7 years of experience from my Carl Jr days as a cashier. I was so happy since you all know I been in desperate need of a job. Plus christmas is coming soon!... Anyways, going back to the concert. It was definitely cultural experience. I enjoyed the music and the percussion instruments they used were interesting. Here are some pictures:

Green Fireball falling from the sky!

Wednesday night, around 7:45pm Manny and I were driving up the street to my house when something in the sky caught our eyes. We soon saw what looked like a bright light falling from the sky. We were amazed and surprise at what we had just witnessed. It was both an amazing and nerve wreaking experience. I am so glad that Manny and I got to witness such a rarity. Btw, that meteor was seen, not only in San Diego, but also in Los angeles, Las Vegas, and Arizona! Amazing right?

Socal's Blackout 9/8/2011

If you watch the news regularly or if you live in South California then you are pretty much aware of what happened last Thursday evening. 

Here is my personal take of the unprecedented SDG&E's error that left most of California and Baja California (Mexico) without power:

While Having a late lunch/early dinner with my mom and her boyfriend we were startled when the kitchen lights went off, the washer came to a sudden stop, and the ceiling fan stop flowing the much needed fresh air. I IMMEDIATELY got on my phone and called my boyfriend, who I knew was in class at SDSU. 

You see, 10 years ago the United states of America experienced an act of terror that left most of us traumatized every time September 11th comes along. 

So here I was trying to call him and informed him that the lights went out. I really needed him to get on a computer and check right away what was going on. I just had a really bad feeling. 

When he didn't answer, cause he was in class, I started looking for a battery radio. When I couldn't find any at my house, I got the brilliant idea of going to the car. While listening to the radio, I noticed that most of the stations were playing music with out commercials or breaks. Most other stations had an eery silence. I began to PANIC! 

Fortunately, the spanish stations were the only ones giving us updates of what was going on. I listened for what seem forever. They kept announcing that not only San diego had lost power but also Tijuana, then Ensenada, Rosarito and even Arizona. The worst part of it all was that while I was in the parked car on my driveway, the weather was at a 98 degrees. 

While listening to the radio I heard people calling in asking if this was some sort of terrorist act or the beginning stages of one. by that time  I was freaking out!

 1 hour passed, still no news of what was going on. 

2 hours more, the spanish news station finally got ahold of a national security person and  they were trying to get answers. 

While we all waited for the news caster to come on air, I was biting my nails and thinking of all the things I needed to do in case we had to evacuate. I was so mad that I had nothing ready. After what felt another Eternity, the news caster came on air informing everybody that the Mexican and United states officials where doing all they could to find out what was going on and to stop any kind of civilian terrorist act. That calmed me a bit. but only a micro bit. 

I did spend an hour calling Manny. Specially after he informed me via text that his college was now evacuating everybody by siren. I tried to get things ready in case we had to evacuate too.

 Still, I had nothing useful in case of an emergency. 

I had no candles (only some half used scented candles) 

I had no batteries for the billions of flashlights 

I had no emergency kit.

Totally unprepared. 

After I returned to the car, all my fears vanished. When I turned the car on and the radio turn on I heard the most amazing news I needed

 (Translation):

"Listeners, there is no need to panic since we just got word that the San Diego Gas and electric are the ones  who made an error. This is not a terrorist act. There is no need to panic"

I immediately called Manny and told him not to panic. I explained the good news. We were so relieved :)

Of course, we were still without any power and the sun was starting to set. 

But at that point I didn't care. I went inside. Turned on my candles and enjoyed a peaceful sunset. It was such a beautiful ending to such a terrible experience. The sunset was so beautiful thanks to the lack of street lights and lights from the houses. 

The moon never shined brighter over San Diego. 

Funny part was around 9pm, after 6 hours of no power, the lights came back on. We heard screams of joy coming from down the street and the rest of the town. Cars were honking while people took out to the streets to cheer. I was just glad to see that Kusi news were on the air sharing on the good news of the power coming back on to the San Diego counties. 

All in all, it was a terrible experienced. But I am glad we are ok. I am thankful for those who kept San Diego Informed. And I regret not having a Smartphone with internet because My life would have been a lot better I had had an easier means of getting information about what was going on with this Blackout.

Labour day Weekend

Last weekend we spent it at the hospital with Manny's mom. She wasn't feeling good so we thought best to take her in. Since I didn't have school I gladly volunteered to stay all day Friday with her while Manny and Perla went to work. I had fun taking care of her. The highlight of my day was when we both laughed at the hospital food she had to eat. 

We spent all of Friday and all of Saturday with her. I might not had our weekly Friday night date but it made me happy to be able to be of some service to Manny's family. Gladly by Sunday she was released and by the looks of how she was acting, she felt much, much better. 

On Monday, Perla invited me to get a Pedicure. I got myself a lilac color. Then we went out to a mexican supermarket and we ate tacos with Horchata.

Afterwards, Manny took me home so he could finish studying for a quiz he had the next day. 

It was a lovely Labour day Weekend. 

Monday surprise datenight

Today, while I was at my house, Manny invited me to the public library. He needed to check out some books for his new project at work. While he was looking for his macro and visual Exel books I was roaming around the hall of books when I came across this!

I thought that was hilarious...

Then afterwards we headed to Borders because Manny still needed 1 more book that the library didn't have. After Borders, I was hungry, so we stopped at the Johnny Rocket's on the malls food court. There we order a burger with fries plus a Strawberry Milkshake. I regret not getting a malt since the shake was Yummy!

Finally, we headed to Target because I been wanting to dye my hair Blue black. Unfortunately I couldn't find the blue black dye but while I was looking for regular black I noticed this new Loreal Midnight collection. I immediately fell in love with the color! So I am now dying my hair violet soft black. I hope it turns out good cause I really, really do love the shade.♥♥♥  But all in all, it was a nice surprise date with Manny.
